Thettekad Bird Sanctuary

Also known as the Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary, this is a bird watcher’s paradise having over 280 species including Crimson-throated Barbet, Sunbird, Fairy Blue bird and a few varieties of Hornbill family. Named after the legendary ornithologist Dr. Salim Ali, the Thattekad Bird Sanctuary is the richest of its kind in India and is comparable only with the ones in eastern Himalayas. There is a three storied watch tower inside the Sanctuary with two beds, a toilet and a kitchen. A forest department inspection bungalow called Hornbill is located near the sanctuary entrance..
