Kodanad

The rural charm of this riverside village attracts visitors, film crews and foreign tourists throughout the year thanks to its scenic natural beauty as well as for its famous ‘Elephant Kraal’. During the 50s and the 60s, this ‘elephant kraal’ was one of the largest such centres for captured elephants. The elephants were trained here by Mahouts known as ‘Pappaan’ in the local dialect. Today the ‘Kraal’ is used as a rescue centre for injured elephants in the wild. You can embark on an exciting ‘elephant safari’, watch baby elephants being bathed and taken care of and visit the mini zoo here.
